Values Agreement

When an organization has mastered values agreement, stated values are consistently practiced. An effective process for negotiating and resolving values conflicts results in shared vision, great loyalty, and widespread cooperation.

Values conflict creates the problems typical in traditional organizations. Such an organization's lack of values agreement can easily be observed. We see people merely tolerating their jobs, people lacking enthusiasm and people without an active commitment to the success of the team.

How can the values of the individual, the team and the division agree with the values, mission and vision of the whole organization? It happens through the disciplined application of a specific, learnable step-by-step process.

When this process is used effectively in an organization, everyone learns to recognize the feedback from people that indicates someviolation of a timeless value. This awareness starts the process. Even when people have different values, these differences can be respected and values conflicts resolved through negotiation.

When the values agreement process is applied, what it does is this: genuine enthusiasm and strong commitment ripple throughout the organization with leaders emerging everywhere. And this process of values agreement is a necessary pre-requisite for self-organization and all of the benefits it brings.
